The Division of Child Development is also known as the Division of Early Childhood Development, also known as the Development Division or simply the Early Childhood Development Division. It is a division within the Department of Social Services. The Division of Child Development aims to provide information and assistance to families with young children, working toward helping them reach their full potential. The Division of Child Development is divided into two main branches: the Division of Social Work and the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services. Both branches share a common mission of promoting early childhood development.
Prevention Of Disease
The Division of Social Work provides programs that target the prevention of disease and disability in the population. Simultaneously, the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services focuses on promoting early education, basic mental health, and family orientation. North Carolina is the only state in the United States to have two separate departments. The Division of Social Work provides programs for preventing diseases such as AIDS and works towards mentally disabled people. The Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services works towards promoting quality social services, family-oriented programs, and medical treatment for the mentally disabled. These two departments cooperate in providing services to the public.

The Division of Social Services also coordinates with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education to ensure that children in care get the medical attention they need and that the parents of such children get proper legal advice concerning their custody and access their children.
What Do They Serve?
The Division of Child Development and Early Childhood Education coordinates the various community organizations, governmental agencies, schools, churches, and home-based caregivers to make early childhood education a success. The board is responsible for the certification of early childhood educators in all 50 states of the United States of America. This board requires that the educator involved in the course have a master’s degree in childhood education and have at least three years of experience.
