Habits of active parents for kids

There are now many baby items on the market, but there are a few essentials that all babies need. You do not need to buy every new gadget that comes out – just the basics will do. While there is no one perfect way to parent, there are some habits of active parents that can help kids grow up healthy and happy.

Some active parenting habits that can help kids include:

This helps both parents and children stay healthy and fit.

• Sleeping enough

Children need at least 12 hours of sleep each night, on average. Parents should set a bedtime for kids and stick to it as often as possible.

• Reading to children

This is an important habit that helps develop language skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. It also allows parents to help with letter and word recognition.

• Talking with children

This helps children learn about the world around them. It also allows parents to build a relationship with their children.

• Avoiding TV and other screen time

Other than reading, children do not need to spend a lot of time in front of screens. There are plenty of fun things for kids to do outside the home that don’t involve electronics.

• Limiting video games and computer time

These gadgets tend to encourage sedentary lifestyles. They also make children less interested in participating in sports and other activities.

• Allowing children to ask questions

While some questions may be too hard for parents to answer, most kids deserve the chance to voice their concerns and curiosity. Parents can help the process along by asking open-ended questions that encourage communication.

• Establishing healthy boundaries

Parents should set rules for kids, and then be consistent about enforcing them. Kids also need to know why these rules exist. For example, it may be important to limit the amount of TV they watch because it tends to keep them sedentary.
