Developmental Milestone For Children: Screen Time

Developmental Milestone For Children: Screen Time

At the University of Calgary, researchers had gone through a survey to check the impacts of screen time on development milestones for children. The increasing trend of internet, games, and entertaining shows on television impacts negatively from kids to elders. The study report was published in the JAMA Paediatrics journal on Monday. The study was about the effect of screen time on the developmental milestone for children. The report said that children at the age of two or more harm developmental milestones at the age of five. It is concluded that screen time effects last for a long time.

Moreover, parents are so busy that they hand over smartphones and tabs in children’s hands and make them sit quietly during working. Later on, they realized the level of development. Sheri Madigan, a lead researcher of this study, is a psychology professor at Calgary University. She has said that screen time affects the overall development of kids, and even they are not able to reach basic benchmarks of skill development. She added that problem-solving skills, communication skills, motor skills and social skills of children are lacking behind. The Canadian Paediatric Society suggested that children between two to five years habituated to use the screen for less than two hours. Studies Says:

Two-year-old kids: 2.4 Hours

Three- year old Kids: 3.6 Hours

Five yeas old Kids: 1.6 Hours

Dr. Michelle Ponti observed early literacy delay because of screen time. Ponti is the head of the digital task force of pediatric society. Furthermore, he is a lead author of CPC’s guidelines. He added that school readiness, emotional skills, and social skills are not up to the benchmark.

Dr, Mark Tremblay is a director at active, healthy living and obesity research, CHEO Research Institute. He said that screen time studies are vital to measuring the time effect. He also noted that children who are suffering from behavioral issues seem to have more use of tabs than required.

According to him, at the age where children can develop interpersonal skills like communication and problem solving from the outdoor games, the children are wasting their time and energy on screen. He suggested that make the children learn from the real-world and other kids and people. Digital knowledge will not work in real life.

Usage: Developmental Milestone For Children

Studies stated that screen usages are fundamental aspects. Suppose your children are communicating with grandparents through the screen on skype, it will not leave any negative impact. It is good that your kids will know the technology and they know screens are not only for games. They will learn how to communicate and many educational things.

Habits Of Parents:

Parents also open up on screen time. Parents said that when they are angry or in a hurry, they just let the children enjoy cartoons. Children will not disturb them again. Some parents said that they are doing this in only functions or events. But what experts suggest? Experts suggest that you have some screen-free time and play with your children. You can also engage them in any activity.
