Development Disorders In Children

There are many different developmental disorders in children. Some are inborn, such as Autism. Others are more controllable, such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Behavior Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Fragile X Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and learning disabilities.

Many Child Development experts specialize in one or two specific areas. For example, if a Child Development specialist works with children with Learning Disabilities, he/she may work with children with Autism, attention deficit disorder, emotional or behavioral problems, behavior disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and developmental delays. A developmental pediatrician, for example, might work with children with developmental delay, autism, ADD, emotional problems, neurodevelopmental delays, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and other issues.

Child Development specialists can treat all types of developmental disorders and can develop a treatment plan for each child. They will collaborate with the doctor in the treatment process and provide a referral for specialized care for each child. As with any medical specialist, they must be properly certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and licensed and bonded. Certified Child Development Specialists are required to complete continuing education courses on child development every two years, providing continuing training for their clients.

All licensed Child Development specialists must complete an eight-hour program that covers every aspect of child development from birth to the age of five. For more information about what you should look for in a Child Development specialist, visit the following resources:
